Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904) was a writer, translator, and teacher who wrote about New Orleans, the United States and is most well known for introducing the culture and literature of Japan to the West. Hearn spent ten years in New Orleans collecting songs for ethnomusicologist Henry Edward Krehbiel.
